The Cheese is Back with the 'Pack Quarterback?

I talked earlier about how a lot of fans are hoping their team drafts the next greatest quarterback for their franchise, and most of the time it doesn't happen. You might get lucky and end up with a Derek Carr level QB. Or you could be really unlucky and end up with JaMarcus Russell.

It's crazy to think the Packers had 30 years of Hall of Fame-level talent! Plenty of fans would trade their firstborn for that kind of luck! First, they snatched Hall of Famer Brett Favre from the Falcons after a poor showing in his first year and drinking problems off the field. Then, they drafted future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers who sat behind Favre for three years. Both of them led them to and won a Superbowl. 30 years of Hall of Fame play!

Well, the way Love is looking right now, it looks like they at least have a competent Quarterback. Let's imagine for a second that he gets to that level of play. Let's talk real quick about why that might be a thing! To this point, Love has thrown 2,866 yards, 22 Touchdowns, and 10 interceptions with a 90.2 passer rating. Aaron Rodgers in the same amount of games threw for 2,897 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions with a 91.2 rating. The similarities are unmistakable! So is the struggle of course. There were a lot of experts wondering if Jordan Love was the guy for the future earlier this season. They did the same to Aaron Rodgers. Although I will say, I believe Rodgers had a harder time winning over the Pack fans because of his attitude and demeanor. Now, Love is at a point in history where everyone can and will be a critic and scrutinize everything they see (Oh, the irony).

According to The Sporting News (link down below) Love is projected to finish the season with similar stats as well.

Rodgers' first-year totals: 4,038 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.

Love is on pace to finish with 4,017 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions

The caveat is Love is playing a 17-game season.

Another tidbit that is going to help catapult Love's first season is if they make the playoffs. It's looking possible! Out of their last five games (Giants, Buccaneers, Panthers, Vikings, Bears), four of the teams currently have sub .500 records! The best team they'll face is in week 16 against the Vikings who are 6-6 at the time of this article and had a poor showing against the Bears recently. That's not to say the Bears won't play the Packers hard though, considering it's a division opponent. No matter who you are you can never be certain you'll beat a divisional opponent regardless of their record. I'd give them at a minimum 4-1 in these last few weeks putting them at 10-7 for the year, and they already have the 7th seed for the playoffs. It's looking to be a pretty damn good year for the first-year starter.

However, my stance on quarterbacks will always be to wait to see them in their second year. Love is looking better than most first years, but that doesn't mean he will live up to Aaron Rodgers' numbers and career. It also doesn't mean he'll be a bum quarterback. We get to just sit back and watch football and we'll see from there.
